UHDB NHS Foundation Trust is offering a demanding and rewarding opportunity to join the Echocardiography Training Programme.

This 18‑month full‑time training post funded by NHS England.

Successful trainees will work towards BSE accreditation (Level 2) and, on successful completion, will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Echocardiography.

This role is clinically and academically demanding and requires:

  • Prolonged periods of repetitive upper‑limb movement
  • Close physical contact with patients
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to balance full‑time clinical work alongside academic study

This post combines supervised clinical training with formal academic study delivered through the NSHCS. Trainees are expected to:

  • Meet academic deadlines and competency requirements
  • Engage with feedback, reflective practice and assessment
  • Demonstrate professionalism, resilience and commitment

Successful completion of the programme requires consistent engagement and sustained effort over the full 18‑month period.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform echocardiograms under supervision, requiring close and sensitive patient contact
  • Contribute to the delivery of a safe, effective and patient‑centred echocardiography service
  • Interpret and act upon test results in line with departmental policies and quality systems
  • Participate in clinical audit, service development and research activity
  • Assist in providing advice to medical, nursing and allied healthcare professionals
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with Trust policy
  • Attend and contribute to meetings, training sessions and ongoing professional development
  • Assist with equipment care, maintenance and quality assurance
