The successful candidate will work under clinical supervision to develop specialist knowledge and skills in skin oncology, meeting the required speciality capabilities and competencies while undertaking a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP).
The trainee ACP will develop the skills required to assess, examine and manage patients with suspected or confirmed skin cancers, including initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and evaluation of care. This will be undertaken under the supervision of senior clinicians including Consultant Dermatologists, Consultant Nurses, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and an educational supervisor.
The trainee ACP will be supervised directly or indirectly at all times until competency is demonstrated and formally assessed by the ACP faculty. They will develop safe clinical decision-making skills and provide high-quality patient-centred care, including contributing to management plans and prescribing medications where appropriate following completion of the Non-Medical prescribing qualification.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
The post holder will develop and demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning and critical thinking in the assessment and management of patients within the Skin Oncology service.
They will work collaboratively with the Dermatology and Skin Cancer multidisciplinary teams to meet the needs of patients, playing a key role in service delivery and adherence to local and national policies, guidelines and procedures.
Working alongside medical, nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues, the post holder will undertake patient assessment, clinical examination, formulation of differential diagnoses, and development of management plans under supervision. They will also provide support, guidance and advice to junior staff and colleagues in relation to relevant protocols and patient pathways.
The post holder will ensure that evidence-based care is delivered to patients and will participate in clinical audit, service evaluation, research activity and quality improvement within the Skin Oncology service.
Following successful completion of the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, including the Non-Medical prescribing module, the post holder will demonstrate the required competence and capability through appropriate clinical assessments and portfolio evidence. Once all competencies are achieved and formally assessed, the trainee ACP will progress to Band 8a Advanced Clinical Practitioner.
