An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Therapy assistant to work as part of the North West Ventilation Service Specialist team.

You will work as an inter-disciplinary therapy assistant supporting the role of all members of the team to ensure high quality patient-focused care for patients attending the North West Ventilation Unit outpatient department and occasionally the inpatient unit.

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and ability to work in a specialist ventilation Unit.

You should be able to work as directed by the qualified therapists and nursing staff but also be able to confidently and competently work within your competencies and manage your own caseload, reporting back to the team and escalating where necessary.

Main duties of the job

You will support the multidisciplinary long-term ventilation team in the delivery of safe and effective care within the ventilation outpatient clinic. The role involves assisting physiotherapists and specialist nurses with the preparation of clinic sessions, supporting patient assessments, and undertaking delegated clinical and non-clinical tasks to facilitate efficient patient flow and service delivery.

Key responsibilities include welcoming and orientating patients and visitors, preparing patient documentation and clinic materials, and undertaking clerical duties to support the team. The post holder will assist with the management and basic operation of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) equipment, including device preparation, cleaning, maintenance, and providing basic patient and carer education on its use. The role also includes applying and removing NIV mask interfaces undertaking capillary blood gas sampling with basic interpretation for escalation to qualified staff.

The post holder will support patients with mobility, comfort, personal care needs, and safe moving and handling where required, while ensuring dignity and respect at all times. They will also assist with equipment management, stock control, infection prevention measures, environmental cleanliness, and preparation of clinical areas.
