You will help provide a high standard of care to patients under going surgical procedures, assisting in the department work load and delivering a quality service in a professional manner.
Main duties of the job
- To work in all areas within or associated in the department on a rotational basis
- To carry out assigned duties within the Operating Department involving the direct care of patients, as required in support of the Registered Health Care Professional.
- To carry out delegated specific and unsupervised duties in support of the Operating Department, including general housekeeping duties as required.
- To assist with the preparation of the area for the operating schedule, including equipment checks where appropriate.
- To support and assist the Registered Health Care Professional during surgical, anaesthetic and recovery procedures.
- To assist in the preparation and disposal of instruments and equipment and general housekeeping of the stores and theatre environment.
- To assist in maintaining a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors, reporting any untoward incidents, accidents or potential hazards to the nurse in charge.
- To help in the transportation of patients, equipment, goods and instruments to and from the operating theatres/wards/other departments.
- To ensure that specimens are transported in a timely, efficient and safe manner to the laboratory.
- To contribute to effective communication with the multi-disciplinary team.
- To contribute to the quality of patient care during surgical, anaesthetic and recovery procedures, in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure.

- To participate in all duty rotas i.e. night shift/late shift/early shift/weekend/bank holidays.
- To perform any other duties as delegated by Registered Health Care Professionals, which are deemed to come within the scope of this post.
