Job overview

Due to a promotion internally of a post holder we have the following vacancies available in theatres -

2 x Theatre Managers - 1 x 37.5 hours per week , 1 x 31 hours per week

Main duties of the job

  • Managing the theatre suite as allocated, coordinating staff and ensuring the safe and effective running of multiple operating lists.
  • Able to provide excellent clinical skills within your area of expertise.
  • Working as part of theatre management team participating in a 7-day roster, facilitating handover between the day & night teams.
  • Manage the theatre allocations daily to ensure skill mix is appropriate to accommodate elective and non-elective activity.
  • Run daily safety briefs with theatre teams to ensure good and effective communication is provided.
  • Always ensuring patient and staff safety, managing risk and reporting of incidents.
  • Ensure full compliance with the safer surgery agenda and WHO surgical safety checklists.
  • Working closely with the Practice Educator in support of training & development and ensuring mandatory training compliance with the teams.
  • Attend weekly Theatre Scheduling and List Planning meetings as required.
  • Attend weekly Theatre Managers meetings and contribute to improvement plans for the service.
  • Maintaining stock control and expenditure in line with budget allocations.
  • Act as deputy for the Head of Theatre Services when required.

Main duties of the job

To create and maintain an environment in which all members of the Operating Department

Team can contribute to the maximum of their capability in providing a high standard of care for patients, staff welfare and teaching of nursing and non-nursing staff.

Participates in audit and research and is a key lead in clinical governance within the directorate.

The post holder carries accountability for assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without supervision and the setting of standards of care including the deployment and supervision and training and education of staff and students allocated to their area.

Due to the dynamic nature of the perioperative arena, the post holder will be required to organise and prioritise operating lists in liaison with surgeons and anaesthetists.

The post holder is required to participate in the planning of the Theatre schedules and the population and planning of the operating lists.

The post holder is responsible for practice development and the formulation of training plans.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Manage the Theatre Department and provide line management for the team. Comply with policy and procedure in data collection and reporting.

Responsible for ensuring the team address on-going health care needs and where appropriate, undertake effective discharge planning.

Maximise best use of clinical resources, monitor and evaluate patient flow, admission and discharge arrangements, take responsibility for initiating improvements.

Manage Staffing levels and staff rosters including organising agency cover/overtime to cover service delivery.

Develop the services within the Theatre Department and implement service improvements. Lead recruitment and retention within the Theatre Department.
