An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced Technician (Plumbing) to join the busy and vibrant London Estates Maintenance Department at West London NHS Trust.
The post holder will provide multi-skilled trades to operate, maintain and service plant or equipment within the scope of the role at all London sites as required.
Provide technical support, advice and instruction to other maintenance staff and contractors.
Carry out work activities which are both routine and non-routine. Carry out new works, repairs and routine planned maintenance activities to mechanical and heating, hot and cold water plant, equipment and services, and building related works, as directed at all London sites. Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, Trust standards, policies and procedures.
Provide and receive routine information to inform work colleagues, patients, and clients. Communicate and explain technical issues to other staff, clients and patients as appropriate.
The post holder will carry out mechanical and plumbing works to meet the Trust’s performance targets, providing professional and technical expertise to operate, maintain, and improve safe and efficient mechanical systems across the Trust. Responsibilities include repairs, fault-finding, and planned preventative maintenance of mechanical, heating, hot and cold water, gas, and ventilation plant and services.
The role requires acting as a competent person in line with relevant HTMs, Water Safety, Gas Safety Regulations, Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR 2000), JSP 375, and the management of Legionella. You will ensure mechanical safe systems of work are in place, undertake risk assessments, and maintain compliance with health and safety standards.
Duties include interpreting drawings and manuals, operating building management systems, diagnosing faults across a wide range of mechanical plant and equipment, and maintaining accurate maintenance records. You will liaise with the Operational Capital Team, support audits and surveys, test new equipment, and ensure tools and PPE are used correctly and maintained.
The post holder will provide technical guidance and supervision to staff, deputise for senior colleagues when required, participate in out-of-hours on-call rotas, and travel between London sites. Ongoing training, professional development, and adherence to departmental policies and procedures are essential to the role.
