A fantastic and exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of the Team Manager for Wandsworth OP CMHT to provide operational leadership and management for the team. The successful candidate will be reporting directly to the Clinical Manager of the service. Wandsworth OP CMHT have 4 sub-teams that includes the Behaviour and Communication Support Service (BACSS), Community Behaviour and Support Service (CBACSS), Memory Assessment Service (MAS) and Recovery Support Team (RST). All these are within the larger CMHT team. The team is responsible for delivering services to people with dementia and older people with mental health problems within Wandsworth based on Springfield site.

This post requires someone with drive, energy and a commitment to high performance standards and the delivery of excellent services. The post holder would be joining a supportive service line management team, with supervision and opportunities to participate in service development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will co-ordinate mental health referrals and lead with day to day problem solving and navigation, both within the service and at the interface with other services and external organisations.  The post holder will be working alongside the clinical manager and consultant psychiatrists and within the MDT.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, an aptitude for managing multiple demands and effective time management techniques whilst remaining calm under pressure.  A positive outlook and ability to motivate others is also desirable.

You will be responsible for the monitoring and supervising of clinicians’ caseloads using various IT systems, and you will work closely with the service’s Senior Management Team to ensure the services delivered are of high quality and meet nationally agreed targets and local KPIs.

You would need to have excellent communication skills, pro-active, be able to work autonomously and in complex environments. Interested candidate would be expected to be able to think inventively, innovatively and demonstrate ability to lead a team and manage staff within the 4 sub teams within the CMHT. You will also be flexible, responsive and organised, with an interest in developing services, and participating in service modernisation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the smooth and effective operational management and co-ordination of the service.
  • To work in close partnership with the multi-disciplinary team to actively promoting team working.
  • To have regular co-ordination meetings with the team to ensure that the separate elements of team accountabilities are fully addressed.
  • To hold full managerial responsibility for staff members (excluding the doctors) ensuring the various disciplines work within an agreed operational policy and providing support and consultation in the process.
  • Working closely with the consultant psychiatrist, to ensure that all medically qualified members of the team adhere to operational policies and fully engage in the multi-disciplinary process.
  • To ensure that all performance information identified as necessary is collected according to the timescale required.
  • To ensure systems are in place to manage intake, allocation, caseloads and clinical review in the team.
  • To carry through all agreed procedures in regard to staff disciplinary and sickness absence arrangements. To work with the Clinical Manager and professional heads of discipline where required to process these issues.
