Job overview

The post holder will be a clinical expert in all radiographic procedures used during Neuro - Interventional Radiology, as well as good knowledge of complex neuro-surgical procedures that are undertaken within theatres using fluoroscopic and O-ARM imaging techniques.

They will have responsibility to ensure that there is coordination of radiographers and multidisciplinary team members in order to deliver a timely and effective Neurosciences Radiology service.

They will have responsibility within the role to ensure good communication, good understanding, safety, excellent patient care and development of evidence- based practice to ensure the delivery of a leading edge, high quality patient centred service.

The post holder will be a state registered radiographer with a minimum of five years post-qualification experience in an acute setting.

They will provide specialist radiographic services for the Neurosciences Radiology service at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

The Post holder will share responsible for the planning and provision of a 24/7 Neurosciences Radiography service compatible with the Trust’s commitment as a Major Trauma Centre.

the Trust is moving to a 24/7 thrombectomy service at RSCH where the Neurosciences Superintendent will have a pivotal role in assisting with the implementation alongside senior management and the neuro consultant group,. there will be an emphasis on training of newly employed staff rotating through the area.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Lead training of radiographers that work in the CT department when undertaking neuro-specialist procedures.
  • Share and lead professional education related to Neurosciences Radiography for radiographers and nursing staff with the consultant radiologists within the team.
  • Lead, perform and assess quality assurance programs for specialised x-ray equipment
  • Ensure compliance and implementation of all Policies and Procedures for related imaging, equipment use and radiation safety
  • Advise senior management on new imaging equipment during any procurement process.
  • Attend regular performance meetings and provide written and verbal updates concerning any changes to the team or service operation.
  • Provide line management for the radiographers within the Team.
  • Contribute to recruitment and retention processes and support members of the team with issues pertaining to HR policy.
  • Organising staff appraisals, be involved with disciplinary issues and organise staff appointments including job advertisements and interviews.
  • To be an authorised signatory for the budget within the department and have the authority to order consumables relevant to the department.
  • To ensure the department delivers an exemplary service and experience to patients and members of the public.
  • To ensure departmental adherence to Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R) 2017 and Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR) 2017, and the Trust’s policies, protocols and guidelines.
  • To act as a point of contact between the imaging department and service users to ensure maximum patient benefit by ensuring correct examinations are requested. To modify protocols to optimise the diagnostic study. Giving advice to junior members of staff on rotation to the department.
