An excellent opportunity has opened up for a Stoma Care Sister

▪The post holder will assist in the delivery of the Stoma Care Nursing Service for patients who have had stoma surgery

▪The post holder will deliver stoma care to a high standard ensuring all patients, relatives’ careers and health care professionals have access to stoma care nursing support and advice

▪The post holder will manage a caseload within the specialist field of stoma care, networking with nurse specialists regionally and nationally

▪The post holder will provide leadership for the stoma care team ensuring that the service drives forward improvements and changes as required

Main duties of the job

▪ To deliver high quality stoma care which includes specialist assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for stoma patients

▪ To work independently with minimal supervision, developing higher-level practice through specialist stoma care knowledge and expertise

▪ To act as the patients, advocate in decision making regarding stoma formation and underlying diagnosis including cancer and benign disease whilst also providing emotional support

▪ To act as a point of contact for stoma patients, their families, and carers

▪ Teach patients and families essential self-care skills for managing their stoma which helps to promote independence

▪ To act as a role model, providing supervision, and delegate to other staff, ensuring high standards of evidence-based care

▪ Support teaching programmes to other healthcare professional to help build competencies across the group

▪ Work across hospital settings to ensure seamless care for patients from admission to discharge and beyond
