Our nurses ensure the safe admission, recovery and discharge of patients, as well as assisting our Consultants and Nurse Endoscopists within the procedure room. Patients attend the endoscopy department for various different endoscopic procedures; colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, gastroscopy, bronchoscopy and cystoscopy as well as some therapeutic procedures. Patients are referred into the endoscopy service via different routes; GP referrals, surveillance programmes, bowel cancer screening programmes or referred via the multi-disciplinary team. We are proud to provide a comprehensive in house training programme which ensures nurses feel supported and competent in their abilities. We also participate in a out of hours on call rota with Darlington Memorial Hospital acute site.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
