Nottinghamshire Healthcare are delighted to offer a Band 5 nursing position within our inpatient team.

John Eastwood Hospice  is a purpose built unit with 12 beds, providing palliative care services to patients with complex incurable progressive illness and those important to them.  We have recently renovated our building offering more space in which to deliver care and more resources to offer training and support to our own staff and to support our ambitions to provide more services across the local community.

We are seeking enthusiastic, experienced registered nurses with a keen interest in palliative / end of life care who wish to further develop their skills in this speciality and be part of our growing team.

1 x 12 month fixed term/secondment available.

2x 6 month fixed term/secondments available.

Main duties of the job

The inpatient unit is Consultant led and provides care for patients with complex conditions, and those important to them, as they approach the end of their lives.  As a staff nurse within our inpatient unit you will deliver a range of nursing care to patients and those important to them across the working shift.  This includes not exhaustively:

-Symptom management through holistic assessment and management of a patient's medication. -Delivery of medication via various routes including intravenous therapy and syringe drivers

-Personal hygiene and daily care needs wound care and pressure area management support with mobility and rehabilitation care of patients in the last hours and days of life.

Staff within the inpatient unit work a rota of 12hr shifts, across days, nights and weekends and the successful candidate will be willing to meet this demand.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Caring for patients as they approach their end of life is physically and emotionally demanding and the role requires frequent exposure to distressing situations .  Therefore the successful candidate will be resilient, empathic, demonstrate excellent communication skills and be comfortable working in this environment.

As well as the duties outlined above, you will be able to demonstrate accurate record keeping, the ability to prioritise your workload and to plan and evaluate patient care.  You will support the learning and development needs of others, including student nurses.

The role will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work across within our Living Well Centre.  This is our day therapy provision that provides care and support to patients and those important to them on a sessional basis.  You will also be supported to co-ordinate shifts and engage in MDT meetings.  You will be encouraged to undertake continuous professional development and to bring your own ideas to improving outcomes for our patients.

The hospice benefits from the support of the Charitable Trust and you will be encouraged to access internal and external training opportunities that will help to develop your knowledge and skills including advance communication skills.
