Job overview

An exciting opportunity has to work within the Perinatal Mental Health Services, NW Surrey has arisen and is a fixed term contract for 12months. You will be joining a passionate, friendly & welcoming team.

The post would be ideal for someone who is waiting to get onto the higher trainee posts in psychiatry. The post would also be ideal for someone who is preparing for MRCPsych examinations. The post provides plenty of experience in managing acute & chronic conditions in psychiatry with a perinatal frame of mind.

There will be plenty of opportunities to undertake audits, Quality Improvement projects, and teaching both within the team & across the team.

Dr Ramya Giridhar, Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist who will be your supervisor, is a CASC Examiner and is a panel member for HST interviews. Therefore, whatever your career intentions are, you would be able to achieve them in this post.

Main duties of the job

The duties of the post would include undertaking comprehensive assessments and risk assessments. The can be new patient assessments, or review appointments. New patient assessments are restricted to one per week, unless there is an emergency.

You would be expected to able to communicate with midwives, general practitioners and health professionals effectively. Therefore, good verbal and written communication skills are necessary for the post.

You would attend the MDT meetings on Thursday morning which would be a fixed commitment.

You would be expected to support the triage clinicians once a week as per the rota. At present, this is on a Thursday.

You would be supported by administration staff and other members of the team who are friendly and welcoming.

You would receive appropriate training to undertake the duties of the post and therefore would feel supported even if you have not worked in perinatal psychiatry before.

There is no on-call commitment in this post. You can, however, undertake on-calls on a locum basis to cover the gaps in the rota depending on your level of experience.
