Job overview

Specialty Doctor Trauma and Orthopaedics (Lower Limb)

11 PA’s

The Trauma and Orthopaedic Department based at St Mary’s Hospital is looking to recruit a Specialty Doctor. We are looking for a highly motivated doctor to join the middle grade on-call rota for Trauma.

We are seeking engaged and enthusiastic individuals who want to join us on our improvement journey.  You will be committed to upholding our Trust values.  In return, you will join a friendly multidisciplinary team, delivering compassionate care to our island residents and visitors.  We will invest in you as an individual and in your future professional development.

This is a unique opportunity to combine a challenging and rewarding role in an environment that offers excellent quality of life and a healthy work-life balance. The Isle of Wight has world-class sailing facilities and beautiful beaches; most of the Island is semi-rural with miles of unspoilt bridleways through National Trust woods and chalk down land, offering spectacular coastal walks in areas of outstanding natural beauty. There are also rapid and frequent ferry/rail links with Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington (London can be reached in 90 minutes).

Please direct enquiries to Dr Oliver Cramer, Planned Care Clinical Director via email [email protected]. Informal visits are welcomed.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work alongside one or two consultants in the department and will be exposed to a wide range of elective and trauma surgery. The department is actively involved in audit and research and there are opportunities for the post holder to be involved in both.

The post holder will be expected to participate in a non-resident 1:7 on call commitment, essential to support the junior staff.

The Orthopaedic Department provides an integrated Orthopaedic and Trauma service and has facilities which include: elective and trauma wards for in-patient care, day-case unit, two Trauma & Orthopaedic theatres, designated Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, x-ray and out-patient suite.
