Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Speciality Doctor to work in the department of Trauma and Orthopaedics.

The post will involve outpatient and theatre sessions and successful applicants will join a team of Consultants and a dynamic medical and nursing team. Please note MRCS or equivalent is an essential requirement for this post, CCT or CESR would also be desirable.

There may be opportunities to facilitate independent clinics and theatre lists. Available options will be explored further following a review of the successful candidate’s skill set and level of experience. Main duties of the job

Day-to-day management of orthopaedic patients under post-holder's consultant’s care. Care of out-patients, including the conducting of orthopaedic clinics under the supervision of the Consultant.

To undertake theatre lists on orthopaedic patients under the supervision of a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. The post-holder is expected to participate in the management of the Department, especially in ensuring that appropriate deputising arrangement are made, when necessary, and supervising the day-to-day clinical work of the SHO's and FY2’s in the department.

They will be involved in preparing information for entry to the hospital's Clinical Information System and in preparing Discharge Summaries of patient's under the care of the consultant for whom they are working at the time.

Participate in and contribute towards the teaching programme of medical and non-medical staff e.g.; journal clubs, tutorials, lectures, clinical meetings.

Assist in Trust clinical risk management requirements. Undertake research, if desired, as directed by supervising consultant for the directorate. Clinical Management duties as delegated and agreed by the lead clinician or clinical director.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Provide day-to-day management of orthopaedic patients under the respective consultant’s care.

Provide care for outpatients, including the conducting of orthopaedic clinics under the supervision of the Consultant.

Undertake theatre lists on orthopaedic patients under the supervision of a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Be expected to participate in the management of the department, ensuring that appropriate deputising arrangements are made when necessary, supervising the day-to-day clinical work of the SHO's and FY2’s in the department.

Be expected to commit to maintaining an excellent standard of note-keeping and communication with General Practitioners.

Be involved in the preparation of information for entry to the Hospital's Clinical Information System and the preparation of discharge summaries of patients under the care of the respective Consultant.

Be able to create PowerPoint and video presentations of a high standard for presentation at local and national meetings.

Participate in teaching of colleagues and staff including physiotherapists. Participate in regular clinical audits and the analysis of surgical complications and morbidity.

Participate in an on-call rota, currently 1 in 10, for general Orthopaedic and Trauma admissions at Harrogate District Hospital.
