Job overview

This role is for a F/T Specialty Doctor at Liaison  You will be responsible for providing medical cover at the Sheffield Teaching Hospital (STH) sites in Sheffield.

You should have completed at least 4 years’ F/T postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in core psychiatry or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a core psychiatry; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.

You will be provided with the opportunity to achieve a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) via portfolio pathway.

Based at The Longley Centre and will be expected to travel to all hospital sites covered by STH. You will have office accommodation, with IT support for e-mail, internet access and secretarial support.  The post holder will be issued with all required IT equipment including a laptop & mobile phone as may be required.

Medical workload for the service will be overseen by Lead Consultants, Dr A Shetty and Dr A Mordekar. Youwill hav e access to office accommodation, with IT support for e-mail, intranet and internet and secretarial support there.

Main duties of the job

  • Assessment of patients admitted to inpatient wards and attending the emergency department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. Common clinical problems include self-harm and challenging behaviour due to a variety of functional and organic mental health conditions. Attendance at MDT meetings Attendance and participation in team governance and team development meetings Regular liaison with other team members in relation to patient care. Provision of medical/psychiatric assessments to inform care planning and risk assessment. Formulation and delivery of appropriate pharmacological and psychological interventions. Assessment and management of people subject to the Mental Capacity Act. Assessment and management of people subject to the Mental Health Act. Completion of administrative tasks relating to clinical responsibilities. Liaison with colleagues in community services and inpatient wards. Teaching of undergraduate medical students as well as training sessions at Sheffield Teaching Hospital. Participation in the Section 12 rota on roughly a monthly basis. To perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
