Speciality Doctor in Breast Surgery
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Breast Surgery at St Bartholomew’s Hospital for a part-time (0.1 WTE) 1 year fixed term Speciality Doctor post.
The successful applicant will join our dynamic breast surgery department as a Speciality with a special interest in Breast one-stop care. The post includes 1 PA of activity, the post-holder would be expected to run 1 breast one-stop clinic per week. The successful applicant will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to delivery high quality care
The postholder will be expected to develop effective working relationships with the Breast Unit management team and the Clinical and Network Director.
The postholder will be required as a minimum to meet the requirements of the GMC and their Royal College in respect of revalidation and continuing professional development. Annual appraisal and job planning are required by the Trust, along with the production and maintenance of a Personal Development Plan in agreement with the Clinical Lead or Deputy.
To be an active member of the Breast Surgery Unit and help the team to deliver the departmental mission of excellence in clinical care and teaching.
To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive, efficient and high quality evidence based Breast Surgery service, with continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
Leadership, development and organisation of the services in the charge of the post holder in line with the Trust/Divisional business plans. Liaison and communication with the Divisional Director, Clinical Director, Lead Clinicians and the General and Service Managers.
To provide clinical care for patients within Breast Surgery, including inpatients and outpatients.
To contribute to the provision of comprehensive, efficient and high-quality care throughout the treatment and management pathway of Breast Surgery patients.
To undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients in their charge and the running of their clinics or departments.
To maintain up-to-date specialist knowledge and provide evidence based care for all patients.
To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners, Community Services and all health care agencies.
To engage fully in the annual job planning and appraisal cycle and to contribute to the appraisal of doctors in training.
To have responsibility for ensuring that serious untoward incidents, incidents and near misses are appropriately reported into the Trust’s risk management systems.
To handle patient and user complaints as requested and to work with the Trust’s complaints department in ensuring timely responses for complainants.
To undertake professional supervision and management of junior staff.
