The Opportunity

Applications are invited for a Permanent Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics . This is a 10 PA contract (40 hours per week), which includes a minimum of 1 SPA. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive team comprising 10 Consultants, 3 Specialist Doctors 4 Specialty Doctors, and 6 Trainees at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The Department & Facilities Our newly built District General Hospital, opened in December 2017, offers state-of-the-art facilities. You will be working in a modern environment designed for optimal patient care:

  • A main theatre complex featuring 8 operating theatres and 4 endoscopy/minor procedure rooms.
  • Specialised theatres including a dedicated obstetric theatre, 3 UCV (laminar flow) theatres, 2 integrated laparoscopic theatres, and 1 theatre designed for fixed radiological equipment. We are currently preparing to go live with a robotic surgery system for general and gynaecological procedures
  • Dedicated anaesthetic rooms for every theatre.
  • A 16-bed combined Intensive Care and High Dependency Unit (featuring 16 individual rooms), conveniently located adjacent to the operating theatres and above the Emergency Department.

The Role

  • Elective Duties: Elective daytime sessions average 4.5 per week (varying depending on on-call frequency) and will primarily take place in the operating theatre, with occasional sessions in the ICU.
  • Out of Hours: Commitment is based on a resident partial shift rota (approximately 1 in 7). This is subject to variation and is likely to include both 1st and 2nd call activity.

Candidate Requirements To be considered for this post, prospective candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Full registration with the GMC and hold a current Licence to Practice.
  • A minimum of 4 years of postgraduate training, with at least 2 years in Anaesthesia and Critical Care.
  • Demonstrable equivalence of Stage 1 training in Obstetric Anaesthesia is essential.
