The RVI team is seeking to appoint two specialty doctors in anaesthesia. We seek dynamic individuals with a broad range of specialist skills in anaesthesia for major surgery to join our team. The Peri-operative and Critical Care directorate at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) comprises 100 consultants, 5 specialty doctors and 38 trainees and delivers a hugely diverse range of clinical activity across adult and paediatric theatres, peri-operative medicine, critical care, acute and chronic pain management and home ventilation services.
You must be a fully registered medical practitioner with GMC registration. You will have a minimum of four years’ postgraduate training, at least two years of which is in anaesthesia.

These posts are aimed at predominantly adult anaesthetists with a very broad range of specialist skills, with potentially some scope for maintaining a minor proportion of paediatric practice. We anticipate sessions will be available within a flexible job plan in upper GI, colorectal, gynaecology, plastics, orthopaedic spinal surgery, major trauma, neurosurgery, day surgery and pre-assessment clinic. Higher competency in Regional Anaesthesia for trauma patients is desirable.

Clinical: • Theatre anaesthesia – elective +/- emergency in agreed specialties • RVI Surgical specialties include, upper and lower GI, gynaecology, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, orthopaedic trauma, major trauma, day case upper limb trauma unit, ophthalmology and maxillo-facial surgery. • There is an active regional anaesthesia group and skills in this area would be welcome. • Maternity services - >6000 deliveries per annum. Obstetric sessions may be available if a candidate wished by negotiation.
Administrative: • To be an active member of the department, participating in our wider work of quality improvement, safety, education and specialty development. • To fulfil requirements for annual appraisal and revalidation, to maintain mandatory training and appropriate CPD.
Research: • To participate in recruitment to our NIHR Portfolio trial work, to participate in our national and local data collection (eg NELA, PQIP).
Teaching: • There is an expectation of participation in trainee teaching and education.
