Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our acute stroke unit at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at Kings Mill Hospital in Mansfield. The unit consists of hyper-acute, acute and rehab beds with a strong MDT focus.

You will be joining an innovative, research focused team with a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing and staff development.

This is a permanent full time post 37.5 hours per week. This role requires the post holder to also cover 7 day working and bank holidays on a rota basis.

We would welcome applications from band 5 SLT's looking to take the next step to a band 6 post or from existing band 6 SLT's wanting to explore a change in clinical focus.

Main duties of the job

The role requires the post holder to:

  • Assessment and management of patients with stroke related communication and/or eating and drinking difficulties
  • Independent caseload management
  • Holistic assessment and management of the patient  with patient led goals
  • Providing evidence based therapy
  • MDT working/ joint assessments as required
  • Facilitating medical capacity assessments
  • Taking students and supporting junior members of staff
  • Taking an active role/ leading on service development projects
  • Prioritise patients as clinical capacity fluctuates e.g. around times of annual leave and sickness
  • Making referrals to other services e.g. community SLT services
  • Close working with the community integrated stroke team
