We currently have a fantastic and rare opportunity for therapists who wants to develop their specialist skills and knowledge in working with deaf children.

Band 6  0.4 wte:  permanent contract

This post will be based in Blanche Nevile School for Deaf Children in

Haringey

  • Blanche Nevile School for Deaf Children has a Sign Bilingual philosophy for children aged 3-18 years.  The school has both  primary and secondary departments which are co-located with 2 mainstream schools in Haringey.

You will be part of the wider network of the SLT Service for children who are Deaf across Camden, Islington and Haringey.

We are an innovative and supportive team of therapists who provide a range of interventions for deaf children and their families.  We work closely with school staff and a range of professionals such as specialist Teachers of the Deaf, Deaf instructors, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists.

Band 6  0.6 wte:  1 year fixed term contract   based in Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children in Camden and/or Laycock Provision for Deaf Students in Islington

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based within Haringey Speech and Language Therapy service.  This part-time post is for a permanent 0.4 wte (15 hours per week) Band 6 within the Haringey Speech and Language Therapy team

The post holder will work 15 hours per week based in primary (3-11 years) and/or secondary (11-18 years) departments of Blanche Nevile Special School for Deaf Children.  The school provides a sign bilingual, child-centred education.  The school is co-located with 2 mainstream schools and work in close partnership at all levels.  The Speech and Language Therapy is delivered both individually and within the class environment and works closely with the MDT

  • Key responsibilities are to carry a personal clinical caseload maintaining a high level of professional competence as well as advising/training carers and school staff on clinical issues. These may be related to effective communication strategies/good communication environments. In addition the post holder will demonstrate a good level of clinical expertise and participate in continuing professional development to maintain and further develop specialist knowledge and clinical practice. The post holder  will have an understanding and awareness of deaf culture and will be able to communicate with deaf children and families using a range of communication modes including BSL, to maximise communication with deaf children and their families.
