Band 6: Specialist Speech & Language Therapist
(5 days/1.0 WTE) Covering the two Intensive Community Assessment and Treatment Teams (ICATT)- North and South. Supporting adults with Intellectual Disabilities and/or Autism who live in Nottinghamshire.
The successful candidate will join the well-established and respected Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Service in Intellectual and Developmental Disability Services within Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust.
You will be well supported by senior colleagues, with many opportunities for peer support. The role involves close work with colleagues from a range of disciplines and the post is supported by an assistant SLT.
You will enjoy close links with our team and our SLT colleagues within the East Midlands, and benefit from excellent levels of support, supervision, IT and CPD opportunities.
A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
ICATT supports adults with intellectual disabilities and a range of neurodevelopmental conditions to live well with mental health needs. Our overall purpose is to support the individual and their carers to maintain positive relationships to avoid placement breakdown and admission to hospital.
You will be supporting this aim with your specialist communication knowledge and your understanding of the individual’s needs based on the assessments and observations you will be undertaking.
ICATT is a multidisciplinary team and you will be instrumental in the person-centred formulation of the individual’s needs and care plans by adding a functional and environmental communication perspective to the discussion (using the 5 Good Communication Standards as one of the principles of inclusive communication).
One of the strengths of the SLT role in ICATT is the opportunities to work jointly with MDT colleagues to ensure a holistic approach to care of the individual. It enables to you to be involved in the care and recovery of the individual.
Your focus will be communication, communication, communication recognising the link between unmet communication needs and mental health problems:
Specialist speech, language, and communication assessments focusing on functional communication and what reasonable adjustments (Accessible Information Standards) should be in place to support the person’s needs.
Liaison, advice and recommendations that aim to prevent further communication breakdown and that aim to empower the person to express their thoughts and opinions to the extent they wish. You will work in an interactive and a consultative way.
Co-working with your MDT colleagues, families, and carers to enable their inclusive communication practices in their relationships, care, and interactions with the individual.
Attendance at meetings with and on behalf of ICATT and the individual to plan for ongoing and accessible care.
Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.
