Job overview

The friendly team in the Ultrasound Department at CUH is looking for a Specialist Advanced Practitioner Sonographer in MSK scanning.

You will have previous experience of working in the NHS as a Sonographer and received specialist training in an MSK ultrasound scanning beyond that delivered at PgC level or be working towards that qualification. You must be able to demonstrate that you have undertaken CPD to support your MSK practice and that your scanning and reporting skills in this area have been formally assessed and that you passed the assessment.

The post is designed to support the our specialist Teams and you will work closely with them to ensure that the service can flex to meet the demand. You will have a job plan which includes scanning MSK specialist scans. You will also undertake some general ultrasound lists as required by the rota.

We are a busy service with a complex and interesting general ultrasound workload which includes abdominal, gynaecological, small parts, MSK, Head and Neck, Paediatrics and transplant surgery patients.

We are very focused on developing the skills of our workforce, so offer in-house training in various areas and have supported team members to undertake formal specialist training and complete their Masters qualification and other CPD activities.

Main duties of the job

To undertake a wide range of ultrasound scans and provide written reports

To be an expert Practitioner and Service Lead in one specialist area of Ultrasound.

To perform interventions as appropriate.

To assess complex clinical information to ensure that the imaging that is performed contributes significantly to a diagnosis for the patient.

Provide professional advice to other professionals, multidisciplinary groups, patients and carers.

To participate in the training of Radiology Registrars, Sonographers, Student Sonographers and Radiography students.

To contribute to research, audit and education activities

Contribute to the operational and strategic development of ultrasound services.

Division B – Imaging Department. CUH has facilities on the main CUH campus and in the community. You may be required to work at any of these facilities. This will be determined by the needs of the organisation and the duties of the post, subject to reasonable notice.

We can offer flexible working arrangements and currently offer a recruitment and retention supplement. In order to support service delivery in the community, you may be required to work off the main CUH site as part of the rota.
