A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse, who wants to make a difference and play a pivotal role supporting patients and relatives and to join the North Staffordshire Bowel Cancer Screening Centre. The post-holder will be based at The University Hospital North Midlands, Royal Stoke Hospital site, however this role requires cross site working at County Hospital to meet service requirement and demand. The service currently runs over 5 days with weekend working occasionally to support inequality work, however this may extend to 7-day working as the programme expands to meet service needs.
The post holder will be required to work closely with the existing team to meet the requirements of the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
Main duties of the job
Potential applicants should be a registered general nurse with proven post registration experience. Previous experience and knowledge of working in the following areas is desirable, bowel cancer screening, gastroenterology, endoscopy, pre-assessment. Good IT skills are essential, as the post includes daily data entry into a national IT database
This service currently offers diagnostic tests for 50 - 74 years olds after an abnormal faecal immunochemical test (FIT) and surveillance for Lynch Syndrome patients.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You must be able to work effectively as part of a team, and as an autonomous practitioner managing your own caseload of patients. You will be undertaking nurse-led clinics including patient assessment and the provision of information and preparation and help of those undergoing endoscopic or radiological investigation. The role requires you to communicate and work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team and support the Inequality work within trust and community settings.
Excellent communication skills and be able to communicate delicate and complex information to both patients and colleagues, including breaking significant news post MDT prior to handover of care. The post holder will help meet the Trust and Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and national targets.
You will be required to undertake training in the use of the Bowel Cancer Screening IT system and complete and pass the mandatory NHS BCSP Bowel Cancer Screening Practitioner Programme which may require you to study away from home. Full preceptorship and training will be provided to fulfil the requirements of the role.
