Main duties of the job

This post will enable you to further develop your skills in dietetics, over a range of specialties. Through the rotations you will gain experience in the specialties of stroke, surgery (including parenteral nutrition), gastroenterology, cardiothoracics, critical care, respiratory medicine, renal and oncology.

You will join the renal rotation, developing your skills and knowledge in renal nutrition and complex nutrition support, in both acute and outpatient settings.

Throughout the rotations, you will provide input to the nutrition support round, various multi-disciplinary team meetings and case conferences, acute respiratory care, critical care and stepdown beds. Specialist skills will be developed, and transferable skills enhanced in each rotation you undertake.

We are a large proactive team of dietitians that strives for continual improvement in the services we provide. There will be the opportunity for you to get involved with projects, audits and service developments. We provide dietetic student placements and there will be a chance for you to participate in student learning and development.

We are committed to supporting the ongoing personal and professional development of our staff and offer excellent training and development opportunities. This includes preceptorship to Band 5 dietitians, where you will develop your leadership and management skills.

Main responsibilities

  • To work as an autonomous Specialist Dietitian and provide a comprehensive and effective dietetic service.
  • To work very closely with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To provide assessment, management and education for acute patients requiring specialist dietetic and nutrition intervention.
  • To provide training and advice to health care professionals on the dietary management of their patients.
  • To audit and evaluate the outcome of the service provided.
