The CAMHS Intellectual Disability Team is seeking a dedicated and skilled Band 6 Specialist Practitioner to join our well‑established multidisciplinary team. We provide specialist assessment, support, and therapeutic interventions to children and young people with moderate, severe, or profound intellectual disabilities, as well as their families. Our work supports individuals experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties, delivered within a compassionate, collaborative, and inclusive service.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the Multi disciplinary team.

Work as a Lead professional to an identified case load of young people.

To assess the needs of the young person in partnership with the family/carer developing and implementing  care plans to effect positive change for the young person.

To offer education and support to families, carers and a wide range of professionals in understanding the young persons needs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To assess the needs of the young person and in partnership with the family/carers, design, develop and implement individual care plans to effect positive change for the young person.

To review & amend plans of care/ interventions when necessary and clinically advisable, in line with legislation, NICE guidelines and evidence-based practice.

To offer education and support to families, carers & a wide range of professionals/ agencies to raise awareness and understanding of the young person’s needs.

To offer consultation through a range of initiatives to staff with the aim of enhancing workforce skills, knowledge, and capacity in recognising the emotional health and well-being needs of young people with an intellectual disability and undertake interventions to achieve positive outcomes.

To work within the integrated service framework structure to the benefit of the young person.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
