Job overview

The role provides specialist safeguarding leadership across CPFT/RCHT by delivering high‑quality supervision, supporting practitioners with complex child protection cases, and offering expert advice on referrals, documentation, and multi‑agency processes.

It requires building strong partnerships with statutory and non‑statutory agencies, representing the Trust at safeguarding meetings, and confidently challenging professional decisions where needed, in line with the OSCP Resolving Professional Differences policy.

The role also involves maintaining robust record‑keeping systems, contributing to audits, learning reviews, service development, policy work, and training delivery, while analysing and interpreting complex safeguarding information to identify risk and uphold children’s rights.

The post holder will use advanced communication, analytical, and organisational skills, deputise for the Named Nurse when required, support staff with court and police processes, contribute to CQC and corporate reporting, and ensure continuous professional development.

You will work independently within Trust and national safeguarding frameworks to promote the safety and wellbeing of children.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist safeguarding advice and support to staff across all services
  • Deliver and facilitate safeguarding supervision (individual and group)
  • Support staff in managing safeguarding concerns, including risk assessment and escalation
  • Work in partnership with multi-agency teams, including local authorities, police, and health partners
  • Contribute to case conferences, safeguarding meetings, and Section 47 processes
  • Promote a strong safeguarding culture across the organisation
  • Support compliance with statutory guidance, best practice, and CQC standards
  • Deliver and support training programmes (Level 1–3)
  • Contribute to audits, reviews, and service improvements
  • Share learning from serious case reviews and safeguarding incidents
