Job overview

We are recruiting a dynamic Band 6 Physiotherapist to join the Medical Therapy Team at Trafford Hospital. You will be part of a supportive multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality assessment and rehabilitation for patients on the medical wards.

You will have excellent clinical and communication skills, with relevant experience in acute care and a special interest in Medicine for Older People, including supporting people living with cognitive impairment.

You will bring advanced assessment skills for frailty syndromes, with a minimum of 18 months’ relevant experience. You will understand how to use multidisciplinary assessment and rehabilitation approaches to support patients through their hospital stay, with a strong focus on patient flow and timely discharge.

You will manage a varied clinical caseload and work closely with the Band 7 Team Lead Physiotherapist and the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist. You will provide day-to-day clinical leadership for rehabilitation assistants and support the supervision of students, making this an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership skills alongside your specialist physiotherapy practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Assess patients’ functional ability and rehabilitation needs, including their potential to return to their preferred place of discharge.
  • Use excellent clinical reasoning to provide rapid assessment, goal setting and treatment planning for patients with complex medical needs.
  • Contribute to proactive discharge planning and patient flow, working effectively with the multidisciplinary team and wider system partners.
  • Communicate calmly and assertively, negotiating a way forward in challenging situations and advocating for patient-centred care.
  • Work collaboratively to support safe, timely transfers of care; awareness of Greater Manchester Discharge to Assess processes and pathways is desirable.

We will support you with a robust induction. You will have access to clinical supervision and a wider staff support network, and you will be involved in the supervision of junior staff and students.

You will be expected to participate in a 7-day working service and an on-call respiratory rota.
