An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 6 Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapist to work in JMAPS (Joint Musculoskeletal And Pain Service) at Hexham General Hospital and surrounding areas. Ideal for enthusiastic, skilled, staff who have evidence of significant experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy including post-operative care. Completion of the First Contact Practitioner (Musculoskeletal) Roadmap would be desirable. A valid driving licence is essential for this role.
The role, based within the Physiotherapy department at Hexham General Hospital and/or the surrounding JMAPS sites and GP practices. There is potential for Trust wide working. There may be development opportunities in group rehabilitation, rheumatology physiotherapy and pain management physiotherapy.
CPD is actively encouraged within our teams and supervision is provided by Senior Physiotherapy clinicians supporting staff to achieve their individual learning outcomes, supported by a robust appraisal system.

Main duties of the job
- To identify patients’ capacity to consent to treatment and apply the departments consent protocol.
- To actively participate in the planning and organisation of the discharge process.
- To contribute to the supervision of technical instructors, physiotherapy assistants, physiotherapists and students.
- To maintain a high standard of clinical record keeping in accordance with CSP guidelines and trust wide physiotherapy standards for documentation.
- To attend departmental meetings as appropriate.
- To attend relevant post graduate lectures and in-service training to consolidate undergraduate knowledge and increase skills appropriate to each rotation.
- First Contact Practitioner work may be considered as part of the role. Training will be provided as necessary.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To assess, diagnose and treat an independent clinical caseload.
- To work as part of the physiotherapy team under the guidance and support of more experienced highly specialist senior physiotherapy staff.
- To provide a high standard of physiotherapy care through one of the following;1) a full range of specialist areas including musculo-skeletal, orthopaedics, elderly care, general medicine, respiratory, neurology, paediatrics, surgery and ITU. The rotational element of the role develops individual’s specialist skills across a range of therapeutic modalities.OR2) a static post within one of the above sub-specialist teams. This role will incorporate inpatient, outpatient and community activity in both primary and secondary care settings and support the development of specialist skills and knowledge.
