Job overview

We are looking for a full-time (37.5 hrs per week) band 6 Senior Physiotherapist to work within our innovative paediatric therapy team.

The Paediatric therapy team is responsible for providing a quality service across all three sites (Peterborough City Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Stamford Hospital) to a busy musculoskeletal out-patient department consisting of referrals from: local GP practices, A&E, paediatric consultant and out of area hospitals.

The in-patient paediatric service provide cover to acute paediatric wards across Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke consisting of a caseload of Patients that may include:

  • Respiratory conditions, e.g. Pneumonia, Cystic Fibrosis
  • Orthopaedic, e.g. planned orthopaedic surgery, as well as trauma, e.g. fractures.
  • Neurological conditions, e.g. neurodevelopmental delay as well as neurological trauma e.g. head injuries.
  • Non respiratory input into NICU

This band 6 post is rotational through the paediatric specialities within the service with each rotation lasting approx. 9 months.

You should be forward thinking, dynamic, and have the desire to develop and improve the paediatric therapy service further. The role will provide opportunity to develop advanced clinical supervision skills as well as helping create innovative service quality improvement projects to support management and the wider therapies service.

Interviews for this role will be conducted in person to assess relevant skills effectively.

Main duties of the job

The senior physiotherapist working with the Paediatric Therapy Team provides clinical assessment to children referred to the service, making clinical decisions and treatment plans. The post holder will work applying sound knowledge and skills in the field of paediatric physiotherapy. Working within the paediatric multi-disciplinary team they will assess and treat patients, communicating with other professionals as appropriate. They will support and guide Band 5 and support staff in the management and delivery of therapeutic care plans

The post holder will ensure safe, efficient and effective delivery of patient focussed care in line with identified evidence based practice, local and national standards. To lead on service development, audit and assist in research initiatives to deliver on best practice evidence based care in line with trust and national priorities.
