An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Stroke Therapy Team at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust on a fixed term / secondment basis.  We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative, experienced Occupational Therapist to cover a Band 6 secondment.  The successful candidate will be part of a large, busy acute and rehabilitation stroke service located in the Primary Stroke Centre at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, conscientious and flexible team player with excellent communication skills.  Experience of stroke rehabilitation and working within an integrated stroke team is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of a committed team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dietitians, and Therapy Assistants delivering the stroke service at Stepping Hill Hospital and in the Stockport community.

The post holder will rotate between the Acute and Rehab areas of the Stroke therapy service.  They will participate in CPD, clinical audit and in-service training.

They will be an autonomous practitioner, both professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of their professional and clinical work.

They will assess, diagnose, plan and deliver treatment programmes to patients in their care.

Excellent communication, organisational and team working skills are required as well as the ability to work autonomously and under pressure.

There will be a responsibility to ensure the service demand is met with adequate cover via a 7 day rota, covering weekends and bank holidays.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support and develop Band 5 therapists within the team and act as a clinical educator to students. Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further their own and team’s clinical practice.

They will make recommendations to clinical / team leader for changes to practice.  They may lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service guidelines.

You will be given the opportunity to develop your clinical skills through the delivery of a wide range of evidence based treatments and a robust in service training program.  You will also be expected to mentor and support band 5 Occupational Therapists, therapy assistants and students. You will also be expected to have an active role in service review and development.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
