The Trauma and Orthopaedic Department based at St Mary’s Hospital is looking to recruit a Specialist Doctor. We are looking for a highly motivated doctor to initially join the middle grade on-call rota for Trauma.

The Orthopaedic Department provides an integrated Orthopaedic and Trauma service and has facilities which include elective and trauma wards for in-patient care, a day-case unit, two Trauma & Orthopaedic theatres, designated Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, x-ray and an out-patient suite.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work alongside the consultants in the department and will be expected to carry out a wide range of elective and trauma surgery. you will undertake theatre lists and clinics and should be experienced enough to be able to undertake these independently.

You will participate in a non-resident 1:7 on call commitment, which is essential in the support of our Resident Doctors.

The department is actively involved in audit and research and there are opportunities for the post holder to be involved in both.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To assist in the provision of a comprehensive orthopaedic and trauma service as an independent practitioner.To participate in the day-to-day management of orthopaedic and trauma patients.To undertake theatre lists and clinics as required. You should be experienced enough to be able to undertake your own operating lists.To participate in the middle grade emergency 1:7 on-call rota with prospective cover for leave.
  • In line with requirements of clinical governance, the appointee will be expected to participate in clinical audit, including where appropriate, local on-going and new audits, and specialty regional and national audit programmes.
  • The post holder will be expected to play his/her part in postgraduate activities with responsibility for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contribute to undergraduate, postgraduate, continuing medical and nursing education, where appropriate.
  • There are opportunities for research relevant to the service to be pursued within the agreed job plan.
  • You will be required to co-operate with local clinical and operational managers as well as contributing to the efficient running of services. You will be expected to share with clinician colleagues in the medical contribution to management within your supporting professional activities. Attendance and contribution to departmental and directorate meetings is required
