Job overview

Are you a Specialist Doctor looking for an exciting new opportunity? We are delighted to invite application for a Specialist Doctor to join our team, where you will work alongside a substantive Consultant and a skilled multidisciplinary team across Dorchester, Weymouth and Portland.

As the specialist doctor you will provide leadership to the multidisciplinary service, alongside a Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Service Manager and a Team Leader. The clinical aspects of the post arise from an overall role to lead the team in the provision of effective assessment and treatment services for patients aged up to 18 years. The role includes a focus on supporting improvements in the process of transition to the adult mental health services as and when appropriate.

The Trust is committed to supporting your professional career development, and we pride ourselves on the learning, development, and peer support available. When you are ready, you will be supported to pursue the portfolio route to career progression.

We offer a recruitment and retention payment of £10,000 to be paid in monthly instalments for the first year of employment, along with a relocation package of up to £10,000 if you are interested in moving to Dorset.

In addition, we offer a commitment to flexible working, career development opportunities and our excellent NHS benefits. For any questions and the opportunity to discuss the role, please contact Dr Anu Devanga, CAMHS Lead Consultant; [email protected]

Main duties of the job

The post attracts 10 days per year of study leave and an annual study leave budget of up to £1000.

As a specialist doctor you will provide comprehensive community-based services to young people up to the age of 18 years registered with general practitioners. You’ll work with colleagues in Weymouth and Portland and West Dorset core CAMHS to cover emergency work and keep waiting lists within the Trusts agreed limits.

As a senior professional, your role will naturally include activities supporting both direct clinical contacts, and service delivery. Examples of these activities include policy development, quality improvement initiatives, teaching, appraising colleagues, line management or other nominated roles. A job plan will be developed by the Medical Lead for CAMHS with you and reviewed annually.

The Trust supports research and development, and you will be encouraged, should you wish, to develop academic links with Bournemouth and Southampton Universities.

You’ll take part in the West Dorset out of hours all age on call rota. The on-call rota is paid at 5% on call availability supplement plus 1.5 APA for full time working and pro rata for part time. This is a joint general adult, learning disability, child psychiatry and old age psychiatry senior on-call rota, which is supported by ANPs, SAS doctors and Consultants.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

For the main duties and responsibilities for this role please read the attached job description and person specification.  When completing your application please ensure your supporting statement reflects the criteria set out in these documents by showing how your experience and skills apply to this post.

We understand that using AI can be a useful and supportive tool when completing your application.  However, we have also seen an increase in the over-reliance of AI tools which is negatively impacting applications as they remove candidate’s individuality, and it becomes much harder to get a sense of who you are and your authentic experience.  If you do use AI, it should be used to enhance your application and not to create your supporting statement in its entirety.  If we suspect you have used AI to create your supporting statement and this does not match your experience, we may withdraw your application.
