Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Physiotherapist to join the Critical Care and Medical Therapy team at Homerton Healthcare.

This is a static Critical Care (ICU) post, with the majority of clinical time spent within the ICU team delivering specialist respiratory and rehabilitation physiotherapy to critically ill patients.

The role focuses on the assessment and management of ventilated and complex patients, including respiratory care, ventilatory weaning and early rehabilitation. The post holder will also support the safe step-down of patients to the ward and provide specialist respiratory advice to ward-based teams where required.

You will work closely within the multidisciplinary team, contributing to daily handovers and ward rounds, and play an active role in rehabilitation planning and discharge pathways. The role also includes supervision of junior staff and involvement in service development.

We are seeking an enthusiastic physiotherapist with strong core respiratory and acute care skills who is motivated to develop within critical care and work as part of a dynamic and supportive team serving a diverse local population.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist physiotherapy for critically ill patients within ICU and HDU, including assessment and rehabilitation of ventilated and complex patients.
  • Deliver respiratory management, ventilatory weaning and early rehabilitation as part of the ICU MDT.Support the step-down of patients from ICU to the ward, including joint working and detailed handover to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provide specialist respiratory advice to medical ward teams for complex patients where required.
  • Adapt physiotherapy practice to meet the needs of patients across ICU and ward-based settings.
  • Provide clinical supervision and appraisal to junior staff, therapy assistants and students.
  • Participate in the delivery of the on-call and out-of-hours respiratory competency programme.
  • Participate in ongoing service evaluation and development.
  • Practice in a diverse cultural and socioeconomic locality
