Specialist Clinical/Counselling Psychologist
Hours: 15 hours per week (0.4 FTE)
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Specialist Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join our Acute Stroke Unit and Outpatient Neuropsychology Service in Reading. This is an excellent opportunity for a clinician with a keen interest in neuropsychology and physical health to develop their specialist skills within a supportive, experienced, and forward-thinking service.
The successful candidate will work across:
Royal Berkshire Hospital (0.3 FTE): joining a 30-bed Acute Stroke Unit, providing (neuro)psychological assessment and intervention to adults following stroke.
Outpatient Neuropsychology Clinic, Reading (0.1 FTE): delivering detailed neuropsychological assessments for adults with cognitive and emotional difficulties of suspected neurological origin, including acquired brain injuries, neurological illnesses, and neurodegenerative conditions.
You will be supported by the Principal Psychologist to manage a diverse caseload and contribute to ongoing service development.

We welcome applications from candidates eligible for Band 7 roles who have a strong interest in neuropsychology and wish to develop towards an 8A role.
You will offer (neuro)psychological assessment and intervention to adults with stroke. This will include undertaking: -
There are strong links with the local NHS and independent-sector neuro-rehabilitation units, and with community rehabilitation teams. We have close links with the Oxford doctoral training course in clinical psychology, and there may be scope for joint supervision of Trainee Clinical Psychologists.
In our Outpatient Neuropsychology clinic at 25 Erleigh Road you will provide detailed neuropsychometric assessments of adults with cognitive and emotional difficulties with a suspected neurological aetiology. This includes a wide variety of neurological conditions, including acquired brain injuries, neurological illness, and neurodegenerative disorders.
The goal of your input will be around differential diagnosis, treatment planning, directing patients to appropriate services, and providing guidance around cognitive and emotional rehabilitation.
