Job overview

The post holder will contribute to patient care by providing high standards of cleanliness to  Huddersfield Pharmacy Specials. The post holder will perform specialised cleaning of  manufacturing areas according to the standards required for Good Manufacturing Practice. The  post holder will ensure that the cleaning services are delivered in a professional, helpful and  friendly manner.

Main duties of the job

Cleaning production cleanrooms for the use of manufacturing sterile and non-sterile licenced and unlicensed medicines, warehousing and general offices.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The postholder:-  Undertakes the cleaning of HPS areas in compliance with all local procedures and with the  principles of current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP).   Reports to the Section Head any quality deviation found while carrying out their duties.   Complies with Health and Safety and COSHH regulations within the section.   Assists with maintaining specialist cleaning equipment to the required standards.   Works in a clean and tidy manner.   Accurately completes cleaning and other records relating to their duties.  To be responsible for cleaning duties, in accordance with standard operating procedures,  within manufacturing areas of Huddersfield Pharmacy Specials using own initiative to  prioritise work within set framework and taking into account manufacturing activity within  the area.  The cleaning of the manufacturing areas and equipment requires the use of specialised  disinfectant solutions and antibacterial wipes. This aspect of the job requires the staff  member to change from outer clothing into specialised full body clean room garments in the  provided changing facilities.   Maintains appropriate stock levels and records relating to the specialised materials used  within the units.   Maintains the materials and equipment used in performing the specialised cleaning in a tidy  and clean manner.   Assists in the ordering of materials and equipment used in performing specialised cleaning.   Responsible for the receipt, checking and distribution of clean room cleaning equipment  and clothing.   To assist with the training and demonstration of duties to pharmacy support staff   To undertake cleaning duties within the general use areas of Huddersfield Pharmacy  Specials as required. General areas include stores areas, goods loading bay, office areas, toilet areas, packing areas, label printing areas, external building areas etc The term  General Cleaning covers: sweeping, mopping, buffing/polishing of floors, vacuum cleaning,  and damp dusting/polishing of furniture, fixtures and fittings, shelving, interior doors,  external doors and surrounding areas. etc   To ensure that the Quality Control laboratory areas are cleaned to required standards.  These rooms contain various substances/hazards, and although staff are not directly in  contact with these, they have to exercise care and caution in performing their duties within  the set framework for these areas.   To be responsible for the removal of domestic bin waste and recyclable waste from each  section cleaned to the designated area within HPS. This involves lifting and moving of bags  up to 25kg.   To remove HPS waste to the designated disposal area outside the manufacturing unit. This  can involve manoeuvring cages to a lower floor by use of the lifts, extracting the waste bin  bags and placing them into the waste containers outside the building.   To be responsible for the removal of pharmaceutical waste bags from the appropriate  sections to the designated wheeled trolley   To maintain a good working relationship with line managers and staff within the areas  cleaned.   To report any damage or faulty equipment encountered during working processes to the  Head of Production and in his/her absence the Administrative Officer.   To report any health and safety issues encountered during working processes to the Head  of Production and in his/her absence the Administrative Officer.   To clean shelving and cupboards where pharmaceuticals are stored and keep all areas in a  tidy and organised condition. In some areas the use of a ladder may be required for this  purpose.   To participate in the Trust Appraisal Programme.  Covers the duties of other cleaning staff during periods of sickness and absence and  undertakes any other reasonable duties.   Liaising with other departments within the Trust and contractors, where required, to perform  daily duties.   Train other members of the cleaning services team where required.   Assists in the completion of corrective and preventative actions arising from quality  investigation reports relating to the cleaning activities within agreed time frames.   Handles and moves goods and equipment (maximum weight 25kg), transferring them  between cages, trolleys, cupboards, work areas and shelving that are at different levels.   Healthcare workers have an overriding duty of care to patients and are expected to comply  fully with best practice standards. You have a responsibility to comply with Trust policies for  personal and patient safety and for prevention of healthcare-associated infection (HCAI);  this includes a requirement for rigorous and consistent compliance with Trust policies for  hand hygiene including the ‘naked below the elbow’ approach, use of personal protective  equipment and safe disposal of sharps. Knowledge, skills and behaviour in the workplace  should reflect this; at annual appraisal you will be asked about the application of practical  measures known to be effective in reducing HCAI. The Trust has the responsibility of  ensuring that adequate resources are available for you to discharge your responsibilities.   Complies with Trust and departmental policies relating to security and patient confidentiality  ensuring that procedures are carried out in accordance with safe systems of work and  current legislation.
