
The Department of Blood Transfusion is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and professional Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We are looking for suitably qualified, HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists who have completed their Specialist Portfolio, or the BBTS Specialist Certificate in Transfusion Science Practice. You will work as part of a team covering both of our transfusion laboratories at Leeds General Infirmary and St. Jamess University Hospital. We operate a 24/7/365 shift under AFC terms and conditions; participation is a mandatory requirement of the post following suitable training. Candidates should have proven specialist knowledge of blood transfusion. We will consider appointing to Biomedical Scientist AFC Band 6 Annex 21 for candidates who can demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills or are already working towards their Specialist portfolio.
The blood transfusion department is fully automated with Grifols Erytra technology including Grifols Blood Typing Manager, electronic issue using Clinisy Winpath Enterprise LIMS and Haemonetics Blood Track Software. Leeds Teaching hospitals is a large acute hospital trust with specialties including Haematology and Oncology (Leeds Cancer Centre), Liver and Renal transplant, Cardiology, Leeds Major Trauma Centre, a dedicated Childrens hospital and a large maternity unit. Opportunities for further study and CPD are strongly supported. The laboratory is approved for training by the IBMS.
