An exciting opportunity has arisen at Wye Valley NHS Trust (WVT) for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist Training Officer to join our Blood Sciences Department. We are looking for a keen, enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist with an interest in developing staff and services to help us continue to deliver exceptional, high-quality integrated care to our patients.

WVT is an excellent place to train and develop new skills and further study will be supported. Therefore, this post will be open to individuals who don’t yet have the IBMS Specialist portfolio providing they are committed to completing the portfolio with the support of the department.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for performing a range of scientific procedures on biological samples that contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases and to develop and maintain competency in all sections of the Blood Sciences Laboratory as required: Anticoagulation, Blood Transfusion, Clinical Chemistry, Haematology and Immunology. They will be expected to fully participate in the operation of the department including participation in the extended core hours and 24/7 shift system once competent.

They will assist the Blood Sciences Management Team to help assure appropriate cover to maintain department standards and turnaround times. This role also assists senior staff in the delivery of a comprehensive training and competency programme which will include monitoring of participation and performance and reporting to the Departmental Operations Team.
