Job overview

This is an exciting time to join the pathology team in Dorset.  We are currently making great progress with our vision to create a first class integrated pathology service for Dorset.

The 'One Dorset Pathology' service comprising of Dorset County Hospital, Poole Hospital and The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals will provide clinicians, patients and carers with a consistent and high standard of service across the area and maximise efficiency in the use of resources.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join our friendly Blood Sciences team at Dorset County Hospital. The hospital is located in the county town of Dorchester which is eight miles from the Jurassic coastline and award winning beach.

The ideal candidate will be a Biomedical Scientist with a specialist qualification in Biochemistry

The department has IBMS training approval, UKAS ISO15189:2022 accreditation and encourages professional development.

Consideration will be given to current band 5 candidates who are pursuing further study who could be employed at annex 21.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have specialist experience in Biochemistry. After appropriate training you will be expected to become integrated as a full member of the busy department working flexibly within an average of 37.5 hours per week. Participation in the 24/7 shift system, once trained, is expected and brings an additional payment at agenda for change pay rates. The department provides a wide range of investigations to Hospital clinicians, Community Services and General Practitioners.   The laboratories are approved for HCPC/IBMS training and are accredited to ISO15189:2022.
