An exciting opportunity has arisen for a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our highly skilled and motivated Pathology Blood Sciences Team at Harrogate & District Hospital.

The post will be based in the Biochemistry department. The Pathology team at Harrogate is highly regarded having an excellent reputation with service users. The focus of the department is on delivery of a high quality service with patients at the centre of everything we do. Our vision is to achieve excellence every time.

The post would suit anyone who already holds HCPC registration and has completed the IBMS Specialist diploma in Biochemistry or have an equivalent qualification.

Main duties of the job

Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion,  along with central reception makes up our Blood Sciences Department.

There is also a specialised chemistry section which carries out a number of manual and semi manual techniques using the following Sebia Octa 3, Sebia Hydrasys, Binding site Optilie, two Tosoh G8s, HM -Jack Arc, Advanced Instruments Osmo1, Sherwood chloride analyser, Wescor Sweat conductivity analyser and a Cary 60 Bio spectrophotometer.

The Biochemistry Department has two Beckman AU5800 routine Biochemistry and two Beckman DXI800 Immunoassay analysers, an automate and a DxA FIT.

Following successful UKAS assessments all sections of Pathology are compliant with ISO15189 standards and fully accredited. The department has excellent IT systems with ICE requesting & reporting, Clinisys Winpath LIMS, and Q Pulse quality management system.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to carry out weekend working and working unsociable hours. The posts is for 37.5 hours and a full slot on the out of hours on call rota. The current on call agreement is a hybrid payment of which Mon-Fri accrues AFC uplift, weekend and bank holidays are an attractive sessional payment.
