We are looking to recruit a Band 7 Sonographer to join our friendly team. You must be available to work at either of our Trust sites - Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon Hospital.

We are looking for a motivated Sonographer with excellent communication skills to provide a high quality service to our patients and trainees. This role offers an excellent opportunity to further develop your ultrasound skills and actively participate in the running of the department. There will be a high degree of autonomy and this post will offer every opportunity to fully utilise your professional skills.

We are a friendly, forward-looking department and continuous professional development is actively encouraged to support technical excellence. There may be opportunities to extend your areas of expertise with additional training. Flexibility and innovation are a prerequisite for this post, with a high value placed on individual initiative and responsibility.

Requests from newly-qualified Sonographers will be considered. Interviews will be face-to-face. A practical assessment will be undertaken as part of the interview process.

Main duties of the job

  • Be responsible for scanning patients and producing independent reports of these scans in line with departmental guidelines;
  • Take an active role in teaching and practical training of student Sonographers, specialist registrars, and others in training;
  • Participate in the management of the ultrasound department and in the audit and clinical governance programs;
  • To communicate with patients, their relatives, and others about the purpose of the examinations and the scan results (in line with departmental guidelines).
  • To develop ones own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others, identifying any training needs to the Lead Sonographer;
  • To plan and prioritise ones own workload and that of the section to ensure the efficient flow of work, keeping waiting times to a minimum and maintaining a high standard of service delivery.
