Main duties of the job

  • Build effective working relationships with wards and the Emergency Department to support consistent bed utilisation, patient experience and performance standards.
  • Coordinate safe, timely discharges with ward teams, matrons, medical staff and the Discharge Command Centre, including communicating sensitive and complex patient information.
  • Plan and allocate beds for emergency and elective admissions across the Trust to ensure appropriate placement within national timeframes and single-sex accommodation requirements.
  • Balance capacity and demand across divisions, prioritising admissions, transfers and escalation actions to maintain patient flow and support elective activity.
  • Maintain accurate bed and patient flow information using Trust IT systems (e.g., CPD), producing situation reports and providing timely operational updates to senior managers and teams.
  • Liaise with ED, assessment areas, wards, transport, infection prevention and critical care to resolve capacity pressures, manage outliers and contribute to delivery of ED waiting time targets.
