Job summary

Main duties of the job

The jobholder will be actively involved in providing direct and indirect compassionate care for patients in support of the multidisciplinary team. The jobholder will undertake a range of patient care duties whilst also supporting the day to day operational running and management of the unit.

The jobholder will assist in the overall implementation and evaluation of care as part of the multi professional team. The jobholder is expected to plan, implement, deliver and maintain high standards of patient care. The jobholder will be skilled in taking appropriate action(s) and acting on own initiative to achieve the planned outcome.

The jobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effective care.

The jobholder will be expected to lead and support the team of healthcare professionals working on ward J45, as well as delegate for the team leader.

The jobholder will be expected to practice in accordance within Trust policies, guidelines, standards and statutory requirements and operate within defined competency boundaries.

Job responsibilities

Ward J45 is part of the Abdominal Medicine & Surgery CSU and lies within the Colorectal Surgery service. It is one of the largest centres for Colorectal surgery in Europe.

The conditions managed in our service include colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, conditions of the anus such as piles and haemorrhoids, and problems with continence.

We have developed expertise and become a centre of excellence for treating advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer, performing minimally invasive and robotic surgery, conducting complex pelvic floor surgery, and engaging in academic research. Our research is linked to regional bodies like the Yorkshire Cancer Research Network and national organizations such as the NIHR HTC- Colorectal Therapy.
