Sister/Charge nurse opportunity in Respiratory on Ward A1.

Ward A1 is a 28 bedded unit receiving emergency admissions direct from the Emergency Department. The Band 6 Staff Nurse will provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions. They will also support with the delivery of interventions such as Non Invasive Ventilation, High Flow Oxygen and altered airway care.

The post holder will act as a clinical leader within the ward, supporting junior staff, contributing to service development, and ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care in line with Trust policies and national standards.

Main duties of the job

Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions.

Act as nurse in charge of shifts, providing clinical leadership and ensuring safe, effective ward management.

Assess, plan, and evaluate patient care, recognising and escalating clinical deterioration.

Use specialist respiratory skills, including oxygen therapy and non-invasive ventilation (NIV).

Support, supervise, and mentor junior staff and students.

Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to support patient flow and safe discharge planning.

Promote patient safety, infection prevention, and adherence to Trust policies.
