An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic leader to join the Internal Medicine Directorate. A Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse post has become available on Ward 9 at the Freeman Hospital.
Ward 9 is a specialist in patient ward with 20 beds for stroke rehabilitation and 8 medical beds. We provide care and therapy to help patients regain independence and achieve a good quality of life. Integrated multidisciplinary working is the focus of our Team to achieve patient centred goals. This post offers the opportunity to be a part of a very friendly and well established Team. It is the perfect position to develop leadership and management skills with the support of experienced Sisters and Charge Nurses within the Internal Medicine Directorate.

Main duties of the job
- We are looking for an experienced candidate with an interest in ensuring high standards of clinical care are delivered to our patients, as well as leading, supporting, managing and developing our junior workforce. The successful candidate ideally should have management experience, however we are open to considering candidates who are looking to professionally develop in the Sister/Charge Nurse role.
- The Medicine Directorate is a large fast pace directorate which provides excellent opportunities for professional development and flexibility within the role.
- The successful post holder will be expected to work a variety of shifts including bank holidays, weekends and some night shifts.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / Senior ODP, acting as a deputy when the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / Senior ODP is absent.
- In areas within the organisation Nurses / ODPs may be banded at 6 by virtue clinical reasons, for example, critical care.
- Provide effective support and leadership to staff, patients and carers within the Theatre or Department.
- Act as role model, teacher and supervisor for junior staff and students.
- Ensure systems are in place to provide the continuity of safe effective care for patients at all times.
- Effective member of the multi-disciplinary team
- May be required to participate in an On-call rota as required.
