An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Urology Centre for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse.
We are looking for an individual that would enjoy working in an exciting and challenging environment, who has excellent interpersonal and organisational skills along with the aptitude for working independently when required.
Previous experience within a Urology environment would be an advantage, although opportunities for personal and professional development within the role are available.
The successful applicant will be a proactive team member who can demonstrate an ability to effectively contribute and manage; in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, Lead Urology Nurse and members of the Urology MDT; the smooth effective operation of the Centre.

Main duties of the job
As a junior sister within the Urology Centre, the successful candidate has a key role in the management, co-ordination and development of the Urology Centre Services and staff.
The role involves the management of quality, clinical care, and advocate for the patient experience, effective management of resources and appropriate deployment of nursing staff.

- Liaise with colleagues and members of other disciplines to ensure good communication and effective exchange of clinical information both within and outside the department.
- Ensure effective communication and interpersonal skills with other members of the team. Promote a friendly and welcome atmosphere for both team members and patients. Be courteous, helpful and supportive to patients and staff at all times maintaining the values and behaviours ethos within the Trust.
- Actively promote health education by displaying and updating literature and information relevant to patient’s specific problems for patients and relatives.
- Manage and develop an Urology Centre service which supports all clinical staff and consultant teams. Collate all the necessary data, record management plans and communicate plans effectively with all clinical and administration staff.
- Assist in ensuring that appropriate performance, management and staff development is on-going. Ensure accurate staff records are kept securely, maintaining confidentiality at all times. To also assist in the management of personal issues as appropriate.
- Actively participate with the multidisciplinary team in the development of protocol’s and standards to direct patient care.
- Ensure appropriate staff deployment to match workload of the clinics/treatments and provide supervision for students. Plan and compile duty rotas to ensure appropriate use of nursing resource.
- Co-ordinate the management of the Urology Centre clinics and treatments/procedures on a day-to-day basis, ensuring effective service delivery to quality standards.
- In conjunction with the manager, manage the service needs and the standards of the Centre.
- To introduce new ideas and methods of nursing care (research), carry out clinical audit and act on the information obtained.
- To ensure that the highest possible quality of service is delivered within the Urology Centre, maintaining a high standard of nursing care in accordance with current policies and procedures to facilitate an effective process for the patients’.
- To ensure that all necessary material resources are available for the day to day running of the Centre and allocate as appropriate.
- To be patients advocate and provide support for patients medical, social and psychological needs whilst attending the Urology Centre.
- To maintain good nursing practice whilst responding to the changing needs and circumstances within the service. Encourage and develop new evidence based approaches to practice and act as a change agent.
- Undertake link roles as identified in discussion with the Urology Centre Matron to ensure collaboration and integration with specialist services and departments internally within the Trust and with external partners
