We have an exciting opportunity for a Simulation Education Fellow. You will be working closely with the established Simulation Team. This post is an early career-grade educational position, which will facilitate further core training opportunities. The post holder will engage in Simulation Based Education/ Clinical Skills Teaching with Undergraduate Medical student and Post Graduate teaching including newly qualified doctors and other allied health professional colleagues. They will have a significant role in the delivery of simulation education for years 3, 4 and 5 of the BSMS and Year 5 or the KCL curriculum. The successful post-holder will also be expected to look for opportunities for in-situ simulation, often at short notice, taking advantage of the clinical environment as appropriate whilst maintaining patient safety. Educational models may include problem based learning, clinical and communication skills tuition, inter-professional education, the use of simulated patients and environments and use of advanced whole body simulation (via use of Sim Man 3G) and also VR.
Develop educational and teaching objectives and proposals for the academic year, with clear goals along with any key requirements; Conduct an educational project, either individually and/or in collaboration with others; Analyse and interpret educational findings and draw pertinent conclusions from the outcome of this analysis; Production of high-quality educational material for publication; Build internal contacts and participate in internal networks and any other external networks in order to foster relationships and collaboration; Continually update knowledge and understanding of Medical Education, and also engage in continuous professional development.
Undertake teaching duties, as and when required and in line with the medical school curriculum; Assist with the assessment of student knowledge and supervision of student projects, as required; Assist with the development of student teaching skills (i.e. as part of a postgraduate supervision team);
Attend and contribute to the Undergraduate Local Faculty Group meetings; Undertake any additional duties, as and when required by the Undergraduate Leads.

The successful post-holder will be expected to look for opportunities for in-situ simulation, often at short notice, taking advantage of the clinical environment as appropriate whilst maintaining patient safety. This will require dynamic planning as part of a team alongside the existing simulation faculty and a commitment to development and implementation of the educational style across the Trust. The successful applicant will take part in various modes of assessment and appraisal with emphasis on designing, developing and delivering simulation education to undergraduates and post-graduates using a variety of methods. You will have a significant role in the delivery of simulation education for years 3, 4 and 5 of the BSMS and Year 5 or the KCL curriculum. Educational models may include problem based learning, clinical and communication skills tuition, inter-professional education, the use of simulated patients and environments and use of advanced whole body simulation (via use of Sim Man 3G) and also VR. The involvement in the undergraduate curriculum may involve a range of activities, including bedside teaching, clinical skills teaching, communication, ethics and law tutorials, as well as in-course assessment and end of year OSCE examinations. Expansion in simulation education is anticipated and planned by the simulation faculty, to include IMT simulation for acute medicine, and advanced emergency medicine techniques including difficult airway and sedation alongside higher specialist training courses. We envisage setting up skills teaching for IMT and ACCS trainees to align with the curricula for each. This will extend to regional teaching days and potentially national conferences. To embed and sustain ReSPECT training across the trust, working in collaboration with leads within the trust and also with the local hospice leads. Recent post holders have received formal training in advanced medical simulation and this will be encouraged and supported for the post-holder. Training in simulation techniques and feedback will also be provided by the current simulation faculty at ESHT. Indicative Performance Criteria •A Postgraduate Certificate in Health Education or relevant professional activity; •Pursuance and development of a line of teaching within various clinical departments for medical students on placement; •Publications and presentations at relevant educational conferences; •Other forms of externally recognised professional practice of creative output, of a standing that is equivalent to regular publication of original research; •Initiating, developing and/or participating in links with the Brighton & Sussex and King’s College London Medical Schools; •Evidence of successful engagement with teaching and supervision. Educational •The appointees will have 4 hours per week (10%) for Personal Professional Development towards completion of a PG Certificate, Diploma or MA in Clinical Education •The post is for 12 months.
