The Medical Education and Simulation Fellow roles are newly created positions aimed at strengthening Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust’s simulation and medical education offerings, funded through the education tariff. These posts primarily focus on delivering high-quality Simulation (SIM) in Medical Education to undergraduate students and postgraduate trainees, with an emphasis on fulfilling LGT’s mandatory simulation requirements. The Fellows will develop skills and qualifications in debriefing, ensuring trainees receive both instruction and certification in faculty simulation debrief techniques.

These posts would suit a resident doctor looking for some educational experience whilst taking some time out of training.

Main duties of the job

Lead and coordinate UHL foundation simulation sessions. Applicants will be taught how to conduct effective debriefs and will gain qualifications in faculty simulation debriefing.

Design and implement scenarios tailored to foundational competencies or use the stock of current scenarios, with a focus on clinical skills, communication, and human factors.  Evaluate and improve simulation scenarios based on feedback and evolving educational standards.

Conduct hands-on simulation sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate learners, focusing on developing essential clinical and interpersonal skills.Engage in interdisciplinary teaching and co-facilitate workshops, providing debriefing and reflective feedback.

Support the incorporation of simulation into the broader curriculum, aligning simulation activities with specific learning outcomes.

Collaborate with faculty members to explore innovative educational techniques, including gamification methods like escape rooms.

Maintain accurate records of simulation activities, evaluations, and feedback.Collaborate with simulation centre staff on scheduling, equipment setup, and resource management.

Pursue educational leadership opportunities within the department  Participate in relevant educational programs and pursue qualifications such as a PG Certificate (supported by the Trust).  Develop management skills within an educational setting, with support from senior faculty.

These posts primarily focus on delivering high-quality Simulation (Sim) in Medical Education to undergraduate students and postgraduate trainees, with an emphasis on fulfilling LGT’s mandatory simulation requirements. The Fellows will develop skills and qualifications in debriefing, ensuring trainees receive both instruction and certification in faculty simulation debrief techniques.

This role is ideal for individuals who are enthusiastic about teaching and wish to develop expertise in simulation-based education, educational theory, and practice within a supportive, supervised environment. The Fellows will join the existing three full-time Medical Education Fellows at LGT, collaborating on a range of educational projects that enhance the medical student and trainee experience.
