Job overview

We are looking for an individuals to join the unique Community Children’s Palliative Care Team. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about supporting families who have a child with a life limiting/life threatening condition.

This role involves undertaking play activities and creating a fun environment for the patient and their siblings.  You must be flexible and able to work a variety of day shifts over 7 days. You must also hold a full driving license and have access to a vehicle as this is a citywide service.

The individual will assist in the planning and delivery of care with support from the nursing staff.

The individual will need to have an insight into play activities and how to engage children in activities who have complex care needs plus siblings.

Ability to communicate with parents and carer's plus maintain confidentially and professional boundary's within the home.

Main duties of the job

As a short break facilitator you will provide respite care in various settings such as the family’s home, hospital and special educational settings.

You will be required to provide family centred and holistic care to the children and young people who we provide support to. This may include the patient on the caseload or siblings of the patient.

The role entails meeting their complex nursing and clinical needs, along with memory making, play activities and days out. This may include performing clinical interventions such as the management of airways, including suctioning and tracheostomy care, administering medication and enteral tube feeds. The role also involves providing personal cares. All of which you will be requires to complete competencies, which will be provided for you.

The role is also Office based and requires the ordering of stock and stock delivery to patients. It involves taking part in team activities along with the need for IT skills.
