Job overview

The Therapies department at The Birmingham Women's Hospital is seeking an experienced, well-motivated, enthusiastic person to play a key role in supporting the team, offering treatment and ensuring the smooth running of the service.

They will work with registered physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians and occupational health therapists and will be part of the therapy assistant team. They will also work with women and babies supporting them through important life stages and development milestones, as well as administration teams, ward staff, procurement and suppliers.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, professional and have excellent assistant and administrative skills. Experience in using Microsoft Office applications and a broad general education with experience in a health care setting is essential.

They will have a flexible approach to work, be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and be sensitive to the needs of patients using the service.

This is a permanent position, part time hours of 22.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

To undertake treatment of patients, as selected by a qualified  therapist, and in which the assistant has been trained. To ensure that therapy colleagues and other staff are kept informed of progress with patients and other delegated tasks. To undertake group sessions with the focus on education and  exercise. To communicate and co-operate with patients, carers and other  professionals in an often sensitive and emotional environment requiring mature interpersonal skills. To undertake a range of departmental duties including clerical and administration tasks, stock maintenance, housekeeping. To ensure all therapy equipment and facilities are ready for use and comply with Health and Safety regulations.
