Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse (SACT Outpatients)

Due to staff development within our team, we have an exciting opening for a band 6 Senior Staff Nurse to join our highly skilled and knowledgeable SACT outpatients team.

The service covers units at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Bracknell Healthspace and West Berkshire Community Hospital, Thatcham.

We are open Monday-Friday; 08:30-18:30.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced nurse with a recent history of SACT administration. You should be skilled in venepuncture and cannulation and be proficient in using CVAD’s. In addition, you will have completed an accredited SACT course/UKONS passport or equivalent.

We encourage and support ongoing relevant professional development and many of our band 6 nurses go on to study for their masters in Advanced Clinical Practice in order to be able to provide a high level of clinical expertise to our patients.

The successful applicant will be able to lead services with a caring, patient-centred approach to the treatment they deliver, and be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1/ To provide integrated clinical leadership to a team of nurses within outpatient SACT in order to care for patients with cancer to the highest possible standard and develop practice with the support of the SACT unit manager.

2/ The post-holder will work as a skilled practitioner and will be responsible for the delivery of patient-focused programmes of care, which address the complex and changing health and well-being needs of the client group.

3/ When required the post-holder will manage the SACT unit on a day-to-day basis reporting to the SACT unit manager.

4/ To assume responsibility for the operational management of staff and resources in order to provide a safe environment; in the absence of the SACT unit manager, taking a lead in a specific aspect of ward management.

5/ To act as an expert in SACT delivery and patient assessment relevant to this patient group.
